Tigers Suffer Tough Loss Against Transylvania

Springfield, OH – It was back-and-forth for the Wittenberg University men's lacrosse team as they hosted the Transylvania Pioneers on Saturday afternoon, dropping the decision 14-12 at the final buzzer. The Pioneers maintained a 7-5 advantage at the intermission. Wittenberg battled back throughout the second half, outscoring Transylvania 5-2 in the third quarter, regaining the lead at 10-9. Andrew Ellis led the scoring effort for the Red and White, recording four goals with one assist on seven shots on goal. Ellis added three groundballs and a caused turnover to his stat line on the afternoon.

Game Breakdown

Wittenberg was the first to strike, as Ellis tallied his first goal of the game just over 90 seconds into the action. After two goals by the Pioneers, Ellis converted on the feed from Lucas Klever to bring the game back to even at 2-2. Robert Martin tallied the final Tiger goal of the first quarter with 8:38 on the clock, knotting the game up at 3-3, just before Transylvania regained the 4-3 advantage a minute later. Noah Mackin put away the assist from Connor Rice for the first Wittenberg goal of the second quarter, with Transylvania holding a 5-4 lead. Klever help cut into the visitor's lead with the second Tiger goal of the quarter at 3:24, as the Red and White trailed 7-5 at the break. After Transylvania scored two unanswered goals, the Tigers went on a 5-0 scoring run starting with a goal from Nick Medley. Kody Gould capitalized on the Cam Kennedy feed with just over 11 minutes in the half, bringing the game to 9-7. After a second goal from Mackin with just over three minutes in the period. The Tigers saw two goals from Ellis coming from Rice regaining the lead at the end of the third period. Rice tallied two final goals for the Tigers in the fourth quarter. Paxton Kreger made 13 saves against 27 shots for the Tigers in goal on the day.
