Tigers Trail in Season Opener

Danville, KY- Wittenberg headed down to Kentucky for their season opener against the Centre Colonels. The Red and White were only able to put six points on the board compared to Centre's 14 on the day.  

The Tigers started off the match-up down 4-0 with Centre controlling the momentum heading into the second quarter. Senior, Lucas Klever, was able to give Wittenberg life at the 12:31 mark with an unassisted goal in the second quarter. Tiger defense wasn't able to slow down Centre and the Colonels were able to create a 9-goal gap and Wittenberg went into the half with a 10-1 score.

Ben Rodell got things started for the Tigers in the third quarter with an unassisted goal to keep the game within 10. Wittenberg came back a couple of minutes later on a man-up opportunity to bring the score to 12-3 with Andrew Ellis finding the back of the net from Klever. Wittenberg was able to hold Centre to two goals in the third quarter and continued to slow them down in the fourth quarter. Conor Rice came alive in the fourth quarter with two goals while Klever added another to the board to give Wittenberg their final score of 14-6. In goal for the Tigers was Paxton Kreger who had 10 saves on the day after facing 24 shots.

Up Next: Wittenberg will be back in action on March 20th for their home opener at Edwards-Maurer Field. The Tigers will face off against Kenyon at 1 PM. Only pre-registered spectators will be allowed to attend the game but all fans can stay up to date with the action at wittenbergtigers.com
