Men's Lacrosse Suffers Tough OT Loss On The Road

Westerville, OH – The Wittenberg men's lacrosse team suffered a heartbreaking overtime road loss on Wednesday night 9-8 at Otterbein University. The Tigers put up a comeback, trailing 3-0 after the first period. Wittenberg began to chip away at the Otterbein lead in the second going into the break down 5-2. Wittenberg rallied coming out of the break, keeping their momentum going scoring three goals in the third period to pull within two of the Cardinal lead. Noah Moderwell led the Tiger offense on the night, scoring four goals, tallying one assist with two groundballs to his total. Tony LeBarge led the defensive front for the Tigers, picking up 13 ground balls with two caused turnovers to his total on the night.  

Game Breakdown

Moderwell got the Wittenberg scoring effort started with back-to-back goals in the second period, taking advantage of the man-up opportunity and capitalizing off the Lucas Klever assist on his second goal in the period. Wittenberg continued to feed the hot hand, as Moderwell tallied his third goal of the game just seconds into the third period, cutting into the Otterbein advantage at 5-3. Moderwell put his fourth goal on the board for the Tigers, taking advantage of another man-up opportunity, this time capitalizing off the Andrew Ellis assist. With just a minute remaining in the third, Klever tallied his first goal of the game, cutting the Otterbein advantage to 7-5. Wittenberg got to within one, coming off the Cooper Harris unassisted goal just a minute into the fourth period. The Tigers took it down to the wire, scoring back-to-back goals in the final seven minutes of action, coming from Noah Mackin and forcing overtime. After a hard-fought overtime period, the Tigers were unable to convert on a scoring opportunity on the set play out of the timeout, as Otterbein took the final 9-8.
