Tigers Fall Short In Tough Road Contest Against No. 13 Denison

Granville, Ohio – The Wittenberg men's lacrosse team traveled to No. 13 Denison University to take on the Big Red in an NCAC showdown, falling in the hard-fought battle 17-10 on the day. Five different Tigers found their way into the scoring column on the day, as the Tigers went back and forth with the Big Red throughout the early going, taking a 6-5 lead into the break. Noah Moderwell led the Wittenberg scoring effort on the afternoon with four-goal while placing five shots on target and adding two ground balls to his credit on the afternoon.

Game Breakdown

Andrew Ellis put the Tigers on the board, giving Wittenberg the early 1-0 advantage, coming off the Kyle Wallace assist. Denison responded with five consecutive goals to regain the lead, taking a 5-1 advantage after the first period. The second period was all Wittenberg, as Ellis took advantage of the Denison penalty, and cutting into the Denison lead at 5-2. Moderwell slotted his first goal of the game with just over six minutes to go in the half. Michael Carluccio continued the Tiger scoring rally with just under three minutes remaining in the first half before Cooper Harris brought things back to even at 5-5. Matthew Welch converted on the Jerry Coyle assist with just under two minutes to go, giving Wittenberg the 6-5 advantage at the break. The two sides continued to trade goals in the second half, with Moderwell opening the scoring off the assist from Ellis taking the Wittenberg advantage out to 7-5. Moderwell tallied his second goal of the period less than five minutes later before Welch converted on the Carluccio assist to tie the game at 9-9. Denison would go on to hold the Tigers scoreless through the final period until Modersell found the back of the net one last time coming off the Ellis assist to close out the game.

Who Stood Out

Tony Lebarge picked up a team-high 10 ground balls on the afternoon. Max Cavellier made 17 saves on 34 shots from the Big Red.
