Crawfordsville, Ind. – The Wittenberg men's lacrosse team took down the Little Giants of Wabash College in an NCAC road showdown, 14-4. The Tigers jumped out to an early 10-0 lead by the end of the first half, scoring nine goals in the first quarter of action. Wittenberg recorded seven assists on their first 11 goals of the game, finishing with nine assists on the 14 goals. The Tiger offense was led by Andrew Ellis with four goals on the evening on five shots on goal while picking up five ground balls. With this win, Wittenberg improves to 4-7 on the season and 3-1 in NCAC action.
Game Breakdown
Ellis logged the first two goals for the Tigers, finding the back of the net less than thirty seconds into the action on the assist from Noah Moderwell. After tallying his second goal a minute later, Noah Moderwell found the back of the net for the first time, giving Wittenberg the 3-0 advantage. Ellis would log his first of three assists on the night, finding Matthew Welch with just over 11 minutes to go in the period to extend the Tiger lead to 4-0. Once again, Ellis would facilitate the Tiger scoring opportunity as Wittenberg went up 5-0 on Moderwell's second goal of the game. Less than a minute later, Ellis completed the first quarter hat trick, finishing the feed from Jerry Coyle. Coyle pushed the Wittenberg lead out to 8-0, scoring back-to-back goals within the final four minutes of action. Michael Carluccio made his way into the scoring column as the first quarter expired, as Ellis picked up his third assist of the quarter. Wittenberg held Wabash scoreless through the first two periods of action, as Welch found the back of the net for a second time off the Moderwell assist, giving the Tigers the 10-0 advantage at the break. The two sides traded goals in the third period, as Wittenberg struck first with Ellis finding the back of the net on the Moderwell assist. As the Little Giants scored three goals to start the final quarter, Wittenberg responded with three of their own to maintain the double-digit win over their NCAC rival.
Who Stood Out
Max Cavellier picked up the win for the Red and White, standing strong in the goal for the full 60-minutes, making nine saves against 13 shots faced. Tony LeBarge led the defensive stand for Wittenberg, causing four Little Giant turnovers and picking up four ground balls. Coyle led the Red and White picking up nine ground balls while forcing two turnovers.
