Men's Lacrosse Falls On The Road At Ohio Northern

Ada, Ohio – The Wittenberg men's lacrosse traveled to Ohio Northern University on Tuesday night, falling to the Polar Bears by a final score of 15-8. Matthew Welch led the Wittenberg offense scoring three goals on six shots, adding three ground ball pick-ups on the night to his total. Wittenberg moves to 1-5 on the season and will open up North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday, Mar. 23 when they host Oberlin at 12:00 PM.

Game Breakdown

Ohio Northern took an early 2-0 advantage before the first five minutes of action expired. Cam Kennedy put Wittenberg on the board with just under six minutes to go in the first period. Welch tallied his first goal with just under three minutes to go before Andrew Ellis responded with a goal from Sam Camacho less than a minute later. Welch and Ellis found the back of the net once again in the second period, as the two sides traded goals before the half. Ohio Northern would take a 7-5 lead into the break. After the Polar Bears opened the scoring to start the second half, Jerry Coyle posted the first Wittenberg goal of the second half just a few minutes into the second half. Kennedy found the back of the net for the second time with just under two minutes to play in the third period, cutting the ONU advantage to 10-7. Noah Moderwell picked up his second assist of the game, as Welch capped off the hat trick scoring the lone Tiger goal in the fourth period.

Who Stood Out

Tony LeBarge led the defensive effort with four caused turnovers and picking up four groundballs. Coyle picked up a team-leading five groundballs.

Wittenberg will return to Edwards-Maurer Field to host the Yeomen of Oberlin College in the first NCAC battle of the season for the Red and White. Faceoff is set for 12:00 PM.
