Tigers Prevail In Offensive Slugfest Over Aurora

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Wittenberg Tigers played the centerpiece game of a day-long celebration of lacrosse at Bishop Chatard High School, and they made the most of the event with a 17-14 victory over Aurora.

The win moved the Tigers to 9-5 overall on the 2015 season. Wittenberg will take a 6-2 record in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play into the league tournament, which opens on Wednesday, April 22.

Aurora led for much of the first half, but Wittenberg battled back to tie the score at 8-8 by the intermission. The Tigers then dominated the third quarter to take a five-goal lead before Aurora scored twice in the closing moments to account for the final margin.

Wittenberg led the shot count 57-38 and picked up 44 ground balls to 23 for the Spartans. The teams split 34 face-offs evenly at 17 apiece.

The Tigers spread the wealth on offense as 11 different players scored at least one goal in the game, led by junior Thomas Fuss (New Albany, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) with four goals, junior Andrew Fuss (New Albany, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) with two goals and three assists, and senior Sean Kelleher (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) with three goals. Eight other players scored one goal in the game.

Senior Riley Boehm (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) collected seven ground balls to Wittenberg in that department, while senior Nick Bergenty (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan), Thomas Fuss, senior Ryan Spitzer (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) and freshman Danny Lowe (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) each were credited with four ground balls.

In goal, senior Jay Dolan (Andover, Mass./Phillips Andover) went the distance and collected 13 saves.
