SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – A winning streak extended to four games for the Wittenberg men's lacrosse team following an 11-4 victory over Capital on Wednesday at Edwards-Maurer Field.

The Tigers improved to 4-3, having previously rattled off consecutive wins against Hiram, Albion and Oberlin.

Wittenberg took an early lead as junior TJ Smith (Atlanta, Ga./The Marist School) and senior Sean Kelleher (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) scored in the first quarter and the Tiger defense held Capital scoreless on six shots. The lead increased to 5-0 through 20 minutes following back-to-back goals by Sophomore Austin Brady (Pickerington, Ohio/North) and a score by senior Matt Hugdahl (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie). Capital then scored one goal to make it a 5-1 game at halftime.

It was more Wittenberg in the second half as the Tigers tallied three goals in each of the remaining periods. Junior Thomas Fuss (New Albany, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) finished the game with the team lead in scoring at four goals and two assists, while junior Andrew Fuss (New Albany, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) chalked up four assists and one goal. Brady made his effort count with two goals and one assist.

Senior Nick Bergenty (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) led the troops with four ground balls, backed up by two each from senior Riley Boehm (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) and junior Ryan Parmater (Granger, Ind./Penn). Bergenty also had a team-best two caused turnovers, sharing the designation with senior Brett Wilson (Lenexa, Kan./St. James Academy). In front of the net, senior goalkeeper Jay Dolan (Andover, Mass./Phillips Andover) tallied seven saves and a victory.

Wittenberg was efficient on the transition, successfully clearing the ball on 16 of their 19 attempts while dominating the possession game with 19 ground balls to Capital's six.

The Tigers' next action is a North Coast Athletic Conference contest at Denison University, slated to begin at Noon on Saturday, March 28, in Granville, Ohio.
