HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. - The Wittenberg Tigers pitched a shutout in the first half en route to a 10-0 lead and then cruised from there to a 13-7 road victory over Sewanee.

The win was the first as a head coach for lead Tiger Jay Owen, who took the program's reins in September 2013. Sewanee saw its early season record evened up at 1-1 with the loss.

Wittenberg dominated the opening 30 minutes en route to a 7-0 lead. The advantage was 10-0 midway through the third quarter before Sewanee finally got on the board at the 6:32. From there, the host Tigers had the upper hand, but it wasn't nearly enough to overcome Wittenberg's outstanding start.

In the final stats, Sewanee held a 43-40 advantage in total shots, but only after Wittenberg held the upper hand by margins of 14-6 and 11-8 in the first two quarters. The host Tigers were also credited with a 42-26 advantage in ground balls.

Individually, Wittenberg's offense was paced by senior Jordan Shoger (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) with three goals and sophomore Andrew Fuss (New Albany, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) with three goals and a game-high three assists. Junior Will Stocker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) and sophomore Thomas Fuss (New Albany, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) added two goals apiece, with Fuss also finishing with an assist.

Junior Sean Kelleher (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) added one goal and one assist and freshman Zach Shy () and senior Lewis Thompson (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newtown) chipped in with one goal apiece to round out the attack for Wittenberg.

Andrew Fuss and junior Riley Boehm (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) led the Tigers with four ground balls each. Boehm also did fine work on face-offs, finishing with 11 wins in 18 attempts. Junior goalkeeper Jay Dolan (Andover, Mass./Phillips Andover) also picked up three ground balls, in addition to his 16 saves.
