Tigers Top Kenyon To Open NCAC Play

GAMBIER, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers jumped out to a 8-1 halftime lead en route to a 12-8 win at Kenyon in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opener for both teams.

The win was Wittenberg's fourth in a row and moved the Tigers to 6-2 overall. Kenyon dropped to 5-4 overall.

The Tigers scored the game's first three goals and possessed a commanding 5-1 advantage by the end of the first quarter. That set the stage for a shutout second quarter, thanks in large part to junior Brady Christensen (Medina, Ohio/Medina), who scored twice and assisted on the third score.

The Lords rallied, but it was too little, too late. Kenyon outshot Wittenberg 16-6 in the fourth quarter and scored the last three goals of the game, but junior Mark DeOliveira (East Hanover, NJ/East Hanover) came up with seven of his 18 saves in the final frame to keep the Lords at bay.

DeOliveira also picked up six ground balls in the game to match teammate Danny Johnson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) for team honors in the category.

Junior Matt Lord (Pickerington, Ohio/North) led the Tigers with four goals and one assist, while Christensen added three goals and an assist. Other top scorers included freshman Alex Previte (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) with two goals and an assist and junior Mitch Cohagan (Pickerington, Ohio/North) with one goal and three assists.
