Tigers Fall At Wheeling Jesuit

WHEELING, W.Va. - Playing step-for-step with a Division II program, the Wittenberg Tigers struggled down the stretch in a tough road loss at Wheeling Jesuit, 11-6. The first loss of the year for the Red and White, a three-goal deficit early in the second half was too much to overcome.

Wittenberg drew within 6-5 with 13:32 to go in the third period on a goal from Ted Winders (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township), but Jesuit rattled off five of the final six goals in the match to pull away.

Sophomore Matt Snider (Cookeville, Tenn./Cookeville) showed proficiency with the stick, scoring a tally while also distributing on a pair of additional goals. Winders added two goals of his own while Matt Lord (Pickerington, Ohio/North)buried a pair to add to his season total. Sophomore defenders Dan Gaines (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and Kevin Pfotenhaurer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) led the way with a combined ten ground balls.

In the end, a failure to clear the ball effectively proved to be the difference in the match as the Tigers dropped to 3-1 on the season. A date with St. Vincent on Saturday, March 21 at 1 p.m. now becomes the focal point for George Harris and his men.
