Wittenberg Gets Back On Winning Track At Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers jumped on top early and maintained the pressure throughout for an 18-10 victory over North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival Oberlin.

The win moved the Tigers back over the .500 mark at 5-4 on the 2008 season and, more importantly, it snapped a three-game losing streak. In the NCAC, Wittenberg improved to 1-2, while Oberlin remained winless at 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

The Tigers' biggest scoring output of the season was powered by a career-high four goals by freshman Brady Christensen (Medina, Ohio/Medina), which was matched by sophomore Jeff Capella (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne), whose total was a season-high. Freshman Mitch Cohagan (Pickerington, Ohio/North) added three tallies and sophomore Mike Reinberg (St. Louis, Mo./DeSmet Jesuit) chipped in with two. Five other Wittenberg players scored one goal.

Senior Brandon Hulett (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) dished out three assists, while six other players added assists, including Capella, Christensen, Cohagan and Reinberg.

Defensively, the Tigers were paced by freshman goalkeeper Mark DeOliveira (East Hanover, NJ/East Hanover) and his 12 saves through three quarters. He allowed just six goals. Three different Tigers accumulated at least five ground balls in the game, led by freshman Danny Johnson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) with six.
