Tigers Fall To NCAC Preseason Favorite Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers dropped a 15-3 decision at Denison University in a North Coast Athletic Conference tilt.

The loss moved Wittenberg back to the .500 mark on the season at 3-3, including a 1-1 mark in the NCAC. Denison, the preseason NCAC favorite and defending conference champion, improved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC.

The Tigers, who were outshot 35-10 and beaten in the ground balls department 39-16, trailed 8-1 at halftime, with their lone coming from freshman Jeff Capella (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) in the second quarter. Sophomore Sam Henderson (Potomac, Md./Thomas S. Wootten) and senior Brandon Schwind (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) added second-half goals.

The Tigers, who return home to face nonconference foe Fontbonne Saturday at Edwards-Maurer Field, picked up two saves from senior Pat Garlock (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles) in three quarters of work and one from junior Andy Shively (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) in the fourth quarter.
