Wittenberg Wins Spring Break Opener Against Alfred

SYLVAN LAKE, Fla. - The Wittenberg Tigers took to the warm climes of Florida, rallying from a one-goal halftime deficit to record an 8-4 win.

The Tigers, who opened the season at home in the cold with a 9-8 overtime loss to conference rival Kenyon, evened their record at 1-1 in the process. The key to the win wasn't offensive production, it was a superlative defensive effort that stopped Alfred cold after Wittenberg fell behind 4-3 by halftime.

Goaltender Pat Garlock recorded 13 saves in the game. Offensively, the biggest game was turned in by sophomore Jon Van Vranken, who had a career-high three goals. Junior Brandon Schwind added two goals from his defensive position, while single goals were scored by freshman Andrew Goldstein, sophomore Brandon Hulett and junior Travis Moore.

Assists were provided by Hulett, Goldstein, Moore, senior Cory Windle and freshman Sam Henderson.

The Tigers are back in action on Saturday against Western New England. After the 1 p.m. game, they will load up for the long trip back to Ohio.
