Wittenberg Rallies For Hard-Fought Win Over St. Vincent

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers had a gut-check on their home turf Wednesday, and they responded with a hard-fought 10-9 win over visiting St. Vincent.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak and pulled the Tigers back to 4-5 on the 2006 season.

Wittenberg got off to a strong start, finding the back of the net three times in a lop-sided first quarter. However, St. Vincent fought back and eventually pulled into an 8-6 lead early in the fourth quarter. With the weight of three straight defeats and the disappointment of losing an early lead to St. Vincent potentially weighing on the Tigers, however, they responded with a strong finish, outscoring the Bearcats 4-1 over the final 10:48, capped by junior Brandon Schwind's goal with 3:53 left.

Goalkeeper Andy Shively made three outstanding saves in crunch time to preserve the win. He had 10 saves in the game.

Offensively, the Tigers got two goals and two assists from sophomore Brandon Hulett to lead the way. Senior Cory Windle and sophomore Jon Van Vranken added two goals apiece.
