Wittenberg Drops NCAC Opener To Kenyon

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers are still in search of that winning formula after a frustratingly close 13-11 home loss to Kenyon. The loss dropped Wittenberg to 1-6 on the season and 0-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

The Tigers fell behind 5-2 by the end of the first quarter despite sophomore Travis Moore's game-opening goal at the 12:28 mark. A late goal less than two minutes before halftime by freshman Mike Coursault cut the Kenyon lead to 7-4.

In the final 30 minutes, Wittenberg scored first but never managed to get any closer than two. Even a late rush that included four goals in the final 4:19 only drew the Tigers within 13-11, the game's final margin.

For the game, the Tigers were led offensively by Coursault with two goals, sophomore Sammy Hong with two goals, sophomore Jay Shimko with three goals and one assist, sophomore Adam Morrison with one goal and one assist and junior Cory Windle with one goal and one assist. Rounding things out for Wittenberg, which actually outshot Kenyon 42-33 for the game, Moore scored the aforementioned goal, freshman Brandon Hulett added a score and freshman Chris Martin tacked on an assist.

Junior Kevin Adams was solid in goal for the Tigers, turning away 13 Kenyon shots.
