Lexington, Kentucky – For the second year in a row, the sixth-ranked Wittenberg University Men's Golf Team took home the top spot in the team standings at the season-opening Transylvania Invitational, played at the par-72, 6,873-yard University Club of Kentucky. 

The Tigers played consistent over the two days of action in central Kentucky with a winning 54-hole team score of 870 (288-291-291) in the 16-team tournament field. Greensboro College was the runner-up in the event with an 877, followed by Piedmont in third with 882 and a three-way tie for fourth between Sewanee, Kenyon and DePauw with 890 strokes each. 

All five members of Wittenberg's scoring five finished in the top-20 in the individual standings at the event, led by senior Cameron Willis finishing second overall in the 88-golfer field with a three-round score of 214. Willis opened play on Saturday with round of 71 & 73, before closing out the tournament on Sunday afternoon with a three-under par score of 70. Piedmont's Matthew Leemann was the individual medalist at the event with a four-under par score of 212 (68-75-69). 

Junior Christopher Dunne also cracked the top-five in a tie for second with Greensboro's Connor Brown with a 54-hole score of 215. After carding a one-over par score of 73 in the opening round, Dunne logged back-to-back rounds of 71 to finish with 215 total strokes. 

Junior Daniel Castleberry finished as part of a three-way tie for 16th with 223 strokes (77-70-76), freshman Evan DiSanto tied with seven other golfers for 19th with a 224 (71-79-74), while senior Ryan Mallette rounded out the Tigers' scoring five in a three-way tie for 51st with a 230 (73-77-80). 

In addition, freshman Christian Tomak played as an individual at the event and finished as part of a tie for 73rd with a 54-hole score of 240 (80-79-81).

The Tigers return to action next weekend, September 7-8, for the Battle at the Brook, played at the par-71, 6,448-yard Plum Brook Country Club in Sandusky, Ohio.
