Wittenberg Golf Takes Sixth Place At NCAA Championships

Nicholasville, KY – The Wittenberg men's golf team wrapped up the 2019 NCAA Men's Golf Championships from the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, KY. The Tigers close out the four days of competition with a four-day team score of 1198(+46), earning a sixth-place finish amongst the field of 18 teams to make the cut over the final two days. Wittenberg posted a +15 on the final day of action with a final two-day score of 308 and 303. This was the 10th consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Golf Championships for the Tigers, after claiming their 10th straight North Coast Athletic Conference title earlier this month. As Wittenberg set off to capture their second national title since last hoisting the trophy in 2017, the Red and White remained amongst the top of the pack after two days of competition, posting a two-day total of 587, placing them in third place and just nine-strokes off of the lead.

Senior Colin Laszlo and junior Cameron Willis were members of the 2017 National Championship team, as they led the Tigers in a tie for 23rd, closing out the tournament with a four-day total of 228. Laszlo closed out his collegiate career with a 73 (+1) on the final day of competition, posting three birdies with 11 par conversions on the afternoon. Willis post a +4 through the front nine, bouncing back to shoot an even 36 through the back nine, closing out the day with a 76(+4).

Junior Ryan Mallette maintained his spot in a tie for the 44th position after carding a 79 (+7) on day three, with 11 pars. Mallette closed out his second-straight trip to the NCAA Championships, finishing the tournament at +17 through four days and tallying one birdie on the final day of competition to record a 78(+6) for the second day in a row.

Chris Dunne carded five birdies for the Red and White on the final day of action, logging a 76 (+5). Dunne followed up his day three score of 74 (+2) where the junior tallied two birdies and converted on 11 par attempts. Cooper Taylor wrapped up his 2019 season in a tie for 65th, posting a +23 over four days of action. Taylor logged a 78 (+6) in the final round of the tournament, following up his 79 (+7) on day three.

While down in Nicholasville, the five Wittenberg competitors were honored with All-Great Lakes Region honors, and Head Coach Michael Leotta was named a finalist for Coach of the Year.
