Tigers Finish 4th At Prestigious Gordin Classic

Columbus, Ohio- The 4th-ranked Wittenberg University men's golf team proved their national ranking by finishing fourth out of 13 teams at the nationally-acclaimed Gordin Classic over the last two days at the historic par-72, 7,098-yard Columbus Country Club in Central Ohio. 

The Tigers posted a 54-hole score of 871 (289-296-286) over the course of the two-day event, which trailed just three other nationally-ranked teams in the loaded field. Illinois Wesleyan, which is tied for 5th in the national rankings with Washington & Lee, earned the team title with a 14-under par score of 850 (285-278-287), while top-ranked Emory finished second with an 856 (286-291-279) and No. 7 Guilford finished third overall with 867 total strokes (287-295-285). 

Individually, Wittenberg had four of its five golfers finish inside the top-25 of the final standings, led by sophomore Christopher Dunne finishing as part of a four-way tie for sixth-place with a two-under par score of 214, which was highlighted by a collegiate-best 18-hole score of 68 on Tuesday afternoon. He opened the tournament with a pair of one-over par rounds of 73 in the first two rounds on Monday. 

Illinois Wesleyan's Rob Wuethrich claimed the individual crown at the event with a seven-under par score of 209 (69-71-69).

Wittenberg senior Colin Laszlo tied for 18th in the individual standings with Transylvania's Spencer McKinney after carding a 54-hole score of 218 (73-75-70), while junior Cameron Willis finished in a four-way tie for 20th with a 219 (70-77-72) and classmate Ryan Mallette tied for 24th with Huntingdon's Stephen Shephard with a three-round total of 220 (73-71-76). Finally, senior Cooper Taylor rounded out the list of Tigers competing at the event in a tie for 60th with Otterbein's Johnny Peck after he carded a 54-hole score of 236 (78-80-78). 

The Tigers will now make the trip out to Western Pennsylvania next week, October 8-9, for the Carnegie Mellon Tartan Invitational, played at the Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, PA.
