Greensboro, N.C. – The Wittenberg men's golf team closed out their 2018 season in the final round from the NCAA DIII National Championships on Friday afternoon at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center.
Wittenberg tallied a final round total score of 303 (+9), finishing in eighth-place with a (+31) through the four days of action.
The feature Tiger would be Ryan Mallette, leading the way finishing in a tie for seventh-place as an individual, shooting rounds of 72, 68, 75 and 74 to close out his NCAA DIII Championship at (+1). Leading the group in par five scoring at 4.56, Mallette would tap in 13 birdie putts on the week.
Cooper Taylor (T44) and Colin Laszlo (T51) closed out their week from the DIII Championships posting a final round of 73. Taylor would command the par three portion of the course, averaging a 2.94 through the week.
Closing out his first NCAA Championship experience, Christopher Dunne posted a final score of 77, finishing 13 over-par landing him in a tie for 54th place. Cameron Willis rounded out the Wittenberg finishers, closing out his week at with a final day score of 80 and 24 strokes over par for the tournament.
Thanks to Thursday's tournament-best 282 (-6), Methodist started Friday with a 10-stroke edge over Washington and Lee in the 42-team field. The Monarchs were not seriously threatened Friday despite posting their highest round of the tournament. Methodist University captured its unprecedented 12th NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship Friday afternoon. The Monarchs, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, shot 296 in the final round for a seven-over-par total of 1,159 over 72 holes, 11 better than runner-up Washington and Lee University. The win marks Methodist's first NCAA men's golf crown since 2015.
The 2019 NCAA Division III Championships will be held at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Transylvania University, which placed 10th this year, will host next year's event.
Guilford and the Greensboro Sports Commission teamed up to co-host the Division III Men's Golf Championships at Grandover for the fourth times in the past eight years. The two also hosted the event in 2011, 2014 and 2015.
