Tigers Take Fourth at West Cup

LA VERNE, California—Wittenberg men's golf competed in the West Cup, hosted by La Verne University on Monday and Tuesday, as the Tigers finished in fourth place as a team. The Tigers carded a 908 (+56) at the La Verne Country Club, as La Verne University won the national tournament with a +40, 892 as a team.

The Tigers finished behind third-place Trinity University by two strokes, and nine strokes behind second place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the 54-hole tournament.

In one of the best tournaments in all of Division III, Wittenberg saw Sam Stilwell finished tied for seventh place with four other competitors, carding rounds of 72, 77 and 74 (+10). Stilwell found himself tied for first place after carding a one-over 72 in the first round on Monday.

With Wittenberg all-alone in third place after the 36-hole's played on Monday, the Tigers fired off a 304 as a team on Tuesday, as La Verne came roaring back from seventh place with a 293 to claim the West Cup crown.

Garrett Brickley highlighted the other top 20 finish for Wittenberg, as the senior from Pickerington, Ohio recovered nicely for the Tigers after an opening round of 83. Brickley fired off rounds of 71 (E) and 73 (+2) to finished tied for 17th when the dust settled, with a three-round score of 227 (+14).

Wittenberg is back in action in Ohio for the first time this spring, as the Tigers set their sights on the Wright State Invitational at Miami Valley Golf Club in Dayton, Ohio on April 3 and 4.
