Men's Golf Leads Off 2016 with Second-Place Finish at Transylvania Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Wittenberg Tigers started the 2016-17 season off on the right foot, posting an impressive second-place finish at the Transylvania Fall Invitational over the weekend.

The Tigers carded a three-round total of 877 on the Blue Course at the University Club of Kentucky to finish nine strokes off the pace set by Greensboro. The 16-team field included four nationally ranked squads and a handful of teams that competed in the 2016 NCAA Division III Tournament.

Wittenberg, ranked fifth in the preseason 2016-17 poll after taking third place nationally last May, tied for runner-up honors with Greensboro. Gustavus Adlophus took home third, with host Transylvania and Guilford College following in fourth and fifth.

Sam Stilwell, Garrett Brickley, and Isaac Hartley all cracked the top ten for the Tigers, with Stillwell tying for third place overall. Stilwell managed to card consecutive rounds of 74, 75, and 69 to finish +2 for the Invitational.

Brickley, a 2016 All-American, carded rounds of 73, 72 and 76 to finish +5 and tied for 8th, as did his teammate and fellows 2016 All-American, Hartley
