Tigers Open Second Half Of Season In Second Place At TaylorMade-Adidas

DATAW ISLAND, SC - The Wittenberg Tigers, ranked fourth in the country in scoring average by GolfStat, opened the second half of the 2015-16 season with a second-place finish at the TaylorMade-Adidas Intercollegiate.

The Tigers led the tournament after the first day on the strength of dominating scores of 293 and 294 in the opening two rounds at the 6789-yard, par-72 Cotton Dike Course. Eighteenth-ranked Guilford rallied in the final round, however, beating the Tigers by 10 strokes to finish with a three-round total of 24-over-par 888. Wittenberg shot 306 in the final round to card a three-round total of 892.

Hampden-Sydney rounded out the top three of the 12-team field with a score of 897. Two North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rivals were entered in the tournament, hosted each year by Ohio Wesleyan. The Battling Bishops placed 11th, while Kenyon, last year's league runner-up, finished 10th.

Individually, Wittenberg put four golfers in the top 10 and all five team scorers in the top 20 in the 84-player field. Leading the charge for the Tigers was senior Sam Geise (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro), who showed tremendous consistency with rounds of 76, 73 and 73 to finish fourth with a six-over-par score of 222.

Junior Garrett Brickley (Pickerington, Ohio/North) was next in fifth place with a score of 223, followed by junior Sam Stilwell (Sterling, Va./Dominion) and junior Mark David Wright (Westerville, Ohio/Tree of Life) in a ninth-place tie with matching scores of 226. Sophomore Maxim Boone (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) rounded things out in 19th place with a 229.

Six Tigers were entered in the field as individuals, and three of them carded scores putting them in the top 25 in the final individual standings. Freshman Chris Eigner (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) tied for 19th with a 229, while freshman Isaac Hartley (Bellevue, Ohio/Bellevue) and sophomore Brennan Whitis (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) tied for 24th with matching scores of 230.
