JACKSONVILLE, NC - The Wittenberg Tigers took on another top-quality field and came away with another outstanding team finish after placing second out of 30 teams entered in the Camp LeJeune Intercollegiate.

The Camp LeJeune Intercollegiate is a 54-hole event hosted by the Marine Federal Credit Union on the Marine Corps Base at Camp LeJeune. The tournament is in its 44th year.

The Tigers played one round per day at historic Paradise Point Golf Course, starting with a blistering school-record round of 278 on the par-70 Scarlet Course on Friday. That was followed by a 297 on the Gold Course on Saturday, which put Wittenberg in third place out of 15 teams surviving the cut.

That set the stage for another tremendous performance by the Tigers, who won the day with an even-par 288 - eight strokes better than any other team in the field - to move into second place in the final standings, 12 strokes behind No. 1-ranked Oglethorpe. Wittenberg finished with a three-round score of 863, five strokes ahead of NAIA powerhouse Webber International for the runner-up position.

Wittenberg has now played seven tournaments in the 2014-15 season, with six top-three finishes.

The Tigers were led individually by two players in the top five and three in the top 10 in the final standings. Senior John Chaney (Gates Mills, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) and sophomore Sam Stilwell (Sterling, Va./Dominion) posted matching three-round scores of one-under-par 213 to finish in a tie for fourth place. They were followed closely by senior Alex Andrews (Kirtland, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) in ninth place with a score of two-over-par 216.

Chaney's opening round 67 was just one stroke off the school record.

Junior Sam Geise (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) was next in 21st place with a 222, and senior Jared Wissinger (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) in 38th with a 227. A total of 74 players competed in all three rounds of the event.
