Tigers Open Spring Season With Second-Place Finish

BEAUFORT, SC - The Wittenberg Tigers teed it up for the first time in the spring season at the challenging Cotton Dike Course at Dataw Island Golf Club and wound up second out of 13 teams in the TaylorMade-adidas Intercollegiate.

Ranked No. 5 in the latest Bushnell Golfweek National Poll, Wittenberg played three tremendously consistent rounds over two days on the 6,789-yard, par-72 course. The Tigers posted scores of 300, 304 and 306 to finish with a total of 910.

The Tigers slowly gave up ground over the three rounds to 12th-ranked Rhodes, however. The final standings showed Wittenberg 11 strokes behind Rhodes but 17 strokes ahead of third-place Kenyon. Four nationally ranked teams were entered in the 13-team field.

Senior John Chaney (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) led the way individually for Wittenberg with a three-round total of 224 to place fourth. Junior Sam Geise (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) was next at 226, good for a seventh-place tie.

Senior Alex Andrews (Kirtland, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) was the next Tiger in the standings with a 229 to place 12th, followed by junior JP Holliday (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial) with a 231 to place 14th in the 83-player field. Holliday was entered in the competition as an individual.

Senior Jared Wissinger (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) rounded out the top Tiger finishers. He carded a three-round total of 238 to finish 29th.
