Tigers Finish Fourth At TaylorMade adidas Intercollegiate

DATAW ISLAND, SC - The Wittenberg Tigers kicked off the second half of the 2013-14 season with a solid fourth-place finish in the TaylorMade adidas Intercollegiate, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.

The top-ranked Tigers carded rounds of 305, 312 and 306 to end up 14 strokes off the pace set by Guilford, which totaled 909 over the three rounds. Concordia (Texas) placed second at 917, followed by Hampden-Sydney at 921 and Wittenberg at 923. Mary Hardin-Baylor rounded out the top five with a score of 926.

Individually, Wittenberg was paced by junior John Chaney (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Gilmour Academy), who showed great consistency over the three rounds with scores of 73, 76 and 72. His total of 221 placed him in a tie for fourth place overall.

Right behind was junior Alex Andrews (Kirtland, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) with rounds of 76, 78 and 73 for a total of 227, which was good for a tie for seventh place. He was followed by senior Ben Hogenkamp (Minster, Ohio/Minster) in 22nd with a score of 233, senior David Wetterich (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) in 40th with a score of 243, and junior Jared Wissinger (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) in 47th with a score of 246.

In addition, Wittenberg entered seven players as individuals in the tournament. Leading the way for that group was sophomore Sam Geise (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro), who checked in with a 232 to place 20th. He was followed by sophomore JP Holliday (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial) in 32nd with a 237 and freshman Sam Stilwell (Sterling, Va./Dominion) in 34th with a 239.

Wittenberg returns to tournament action March 24-25 at the Huntingdon Wynlake Spring Invitational in Montgomery, Ala.
