Tigers Win Second Straight Tournament With Victory At DePauw

CLAYTON, Ind. — The Wittenberg Tigers won their second straight tournament to end the 2010 fall season, topping the nine-team field in the DePauw Small College Classic.

Wittenberg carded rounds of 299 and 294 to finish nine strokes ahead of perennial powerhouse DePauw and 10 ahead of Indiana Tech. The first-place finish on the par-71, 6,700-yard Deer Creek Golf Course came one week after the Tigers topped a much larger field entered in the Wittenberg Fall Invitational at Windy Knoll Golf Club in Springfield.

Individually, sophomore Craig Osterbrock (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) topped the Tigers and nearly picked up his second victory of the fall season, finishing with a two-day total of 145 to place second and earn all-tournament honors. Ironically, the other two Tigers to land on the all-tournament team were entered into the competition as individuals - freshman Jack Uecker (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary), who placed third with a 147, and freshman Tyler Yaple (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome), who tied with freshman Ben Hogenkamp (Minster, Ohio/Minster)for fifth with matching 149s.

Sophomore Jonny Price (Worthington, Ohio/Kilbourne) led the tournament on Day 1 after posting a 72 in his first event as one of the team's top five starters. He wound up eighth with a 78 on Day 2, putting him in a tie with freshman David Wetterich (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle), who was competing as an individual.

Rounding things out, junior Ben Smith (North Bend, Ohio/Elder) finished 13th with a 152, junior Ricky Boerner (Hilliard, Ohio/Watterson) carded a team-best 71 on Day 2 to rally from a disappointing opening round 82 and finish 15th with a 153, and junior Jordan Millice (Cable, Ohio/Triad) also finished 15th with a 153. Finally, sophomore Bradley Shepherd (Dublin, Ohio/Watterson) finished 22nd in the 62-team field with a 156.
