Ben Hogenkamp Medals As Tigers Place Second At DePauw Katman Klassic

DANVILLE, Ind. — The Wittenberg Tigers finished a strong second in the Katman Klassic, hosted by DePauw University, featuring a re-tooled line-up powered by a trio of freshmen.

 

The Tigers finished with a two-day total of 605, four strokes back of the host Tigers on the 7,058-yard, par-72 Twin Bridges Golf Club. Franklin was a distant third with a 628.

The individual story for the Tigers was supplied by freshman Ben Hogenkamp (Minster, Ohio/Minster), who turned in his best collegiate performance with rounds of 72 and 71 for a winning two-day total of 143. He won the tournament by two strokes after finishing the opening round in a first-place tie.

Hogenkamp's second-day 71 keyed the team's total of 299, its best round of the spring. He was backed by sophomore Craig Osterbrock (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) and freshman David Wetterich (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle), who carded matching two-round totals of 153 to finish in a tie for sixth place. FreshmanJack Uecker (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) finished 10th with a score of 157 and junior Ricky Boerner (Hilliard, Ohio/Watterson) rounded things out with a 160, good for 17th place.
