GRANVILLE, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers couldn't make a one-stroke Day 1 lead stand up in the season-opening Denison Fall Invitational, falling to future North Coast Athletic Conference rival DePauw by eight strokes.

The Tigers shot 293 on Saturday, but they followed that up with a 299 on Day 2. DePauw rallied from a 294 in the first round to card a 290 to finish with a 584. Wittenberg was next with a 592, followed by host Denison with a 612, a full 20 strokes behind the defending conference champion Tigers, who won the event by 20 strokes over DePauw a year ago.

While the team didn't finish strong, two individuals in particular certainly did. JuniorRicky Boerner (Hilliard, Ohio/Watterson) followed a one-over-par 72 in the opening round with a blistering two-under-par 69 on Day 2 to move into a share of first place. Sophomore Craig Osterbrock (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) wasn't far behind, taking a tie for third place with a two-day total of 146 (four-over-par).

Junior Jordan Millice (Cable, Ohio/Triad) also finished in the top 10 as he posted scores of 75 and 77 in the two rounds to finish at 152 and in a ninth place tie. Junior Ben Smith (Bend, Ohio/Elder) was next for the Tigers with a 153, good for a 12th-place tie
