Tigers Take Third In OMNI Financial Intercollegiate Field

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Wittenberg Tigers opened the spring season with a strong third-place finish at the OMNI Financial Intercollegiate, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at Hunter Golf Club.

The event capped a productive Spring Break week for the Tigers, who started out with practice rounds in Hilton Head, SC, before heading south for the tournament, which included nine teams. Wittenberg finished 29 strokes behind nationally ranked Greensboro College and 26 strokes back of NCAA Division I University of Pennsylvania in the three-round competition.

Wittenberg's three-day total of 958 featured rounds of 316, 314 and 328 to finish three strokes ahead of Ohio Dominican. Heading into the final round, the Tigers were just 11 strokes out of first place and five strokes back of Pennsylvania.

Sophomore Craig Osterbrock (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) led the way for the Tigers with a three-round total of 231, including an opening-round 73 that was tops on the team for the weekend. He finished in a tie for fourth place individually in the tournament.

Junior Ben Smith (North Bend, Ohio/Elder) was next with a 235, including a second-round 74, to finish in a tie for ninth place. Junior Ricky Boerner (Hilliard, Ohio/Watterson) placed 24th with a 243 and junior Jordan Millice (Cable, Ohio/Triad) rounded out the Tigers' scorers in 35th with a 249.

Also of note was the play of sophomore Jonny Price (Dublin, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne), who finished 12th with a 236, and sophomore Bradley Shepherd (Dublin, Ohio/Watterson), who finished 23rd with a 242.
