Tigers Compete Well Against Loaded International Field

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — The Wittenberg Tigers kicked off the spring portion of the 2009-10 season with a solid finish in a field of American and Canadian scholarship programs at the Don Benbow Invitational, hosted by Butler University. 

Universite Laval, located near Montreal, won the tournament with a two-day total of 573 on the 6504-yard course at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club. The rest of the field was comprised of American scholarship programs, including three that finished behind the Tigers. Wittenberg placed 12th with a 628, two strokes ahead of the host team from Butler.

Junior Bleu George (Lancaster, Ohio/Fisher Catholic) led the way individually with a two-day total of 153, good for a 37th-place tie. Sophomore Ben Smith (North Bend, Ohio/Elder) was next at 158, followed by freshman Craig Osterbrock (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) at 159 and sophomore Ricky Boerner (Hilliard, Ohio/Watterson) at 160. Sophomore Jordan Millice (Cable, Ohio/Triad) rounded out the Tiger golfers in the field with a 165.

The Tigers will spend the rest of the week in the Sunshine state practicing for a sprint to the finish of the 2009-10 regular season. Wittenberg will return to competition at NCAA Division II Northern Kentucky March 20-21.
