Tigers Open Spring Season With Fine Showing At Loaded GEICO Intercollegiate

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Wittenberg Tigers kicked off the spring portion of the 2008-09 season with a solid showing against a strong field in the GEICO Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.

The Tigers were one of just three NCAA Division III programs in the 14-team field. Wittenberg posted a three-round total of 954 to finish in 11th place, just one stroke behind NCAA Division I Creighton and eight strokes ahead of Savannah State.

Senior Garrett Smith (Powell, Ohio/Worthington Christian) led the way for the Tigers with a 227, good for a 10th-place tie. Freshman Ricky Boerner (Hilliard, Ohio/Watterson) was next with a 39th-place finish after carding a 235.

Rounding things out, senior Chad Summe (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) finished with a 241 and placed 57th, freshman Jordan Millice (Cable, Ohio/Triad) took 80th place with a score of 253 and freshman Ben Smith (North Bend, Ohio/Elder) posted a 257 for 83rd place.

The Tigers are back in action next weekend at Northern Kentucky.
