Tigers Move Up To Fourth In NCAC Championship Series at Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers kicked off the 2008-09 men's golf season with a tremendous Day 2 rally for a fourth-place finish in the Denison Fall Invitational. at Granville Golf Club in Granville, Ohio.

The Tigers moved up four spots with a blistering second-day total of 292, a 15-stroke improvement from Saturday's round, to finish fourth out of 14 teams in the field overall. More importantly, Wittenberg placed third among the nine league foes participating in the first of four North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Golf Championship Series event, just two strokes behind third-place Allegheny and 20 back of first-place Ohio Wesleyan.

Only the Battling Bishops' 291 was better than Wittenberg's second-day team score.

Individually, Wittenberg was paced by freshman Ricky Boerner (Hilliard, Ohio/Watterson), who shot a 72-70 for a 142 overall to finish in a third-place tie in his collegiate debut. Freshman Ben Smith (North Bend, Ohio/Elder) was next with a 150, good for 14th, and senior Chad Summe (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) rounded out the Tigers' top-20 finishers with a 152.

All five Wittenberg players in the field broke 80 on Day 2. Sophomore Duncan Littlefield (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) added a 155 and freshman Jordan Millice (Cable, Ohio/Triad) rounded things out with a 158.
