Tigers Fall To Eighth In One-Day Ohio Wesleyan Invitational

DELAWARE, Ohio - Sometimes it doesn't pay to be consistent. The Wittenberg Tigers posted matching scores of 302 in Tuesday's Ohio Wesleyan Lamkin Invitational, but it wasn't enough as they dropped from fourth after the first round to eighth in the final standings of the one-day competition.

The final spot in the 11-team tournament was deceiving considering the Tigers shot a two-round total of 604 to finish just one stroke behind Otterbein and Muskingum, which tied for sixth. Just 11 strokes separated second-place Carnegie Mellon from eighth-place Wittenberg in the final standings.

Wittenberg was paced individually by senior Garrett Smith (Powell, Ohio/Worthington Christian), who carded a second-round 72 to pull into a 13th-place tie in the final standings at 149. Freshman Ricky Boerner (Hilliard, Ohio/Watterson) added a 150 to place 17th, senior Chad Summe (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) scored a 153 to finish 29th, senior Jeff Hochstetler (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) shot a first-round 73 to reach 155 and 37th place total and freshman Ben Smith (Elder, Ohio/North Bend) rounded things out with a 156, good for 44th place.
