Tiger Golf Welcomes New Era

The Wittenberg University golf program is one that prides itself on a strong tradition and is eager to welcome in a new era on the greens. The Tigers welcome new head coach J.J.Searls (Ohio '95) to the helm as he hopes to lead a strong group of underclassmen into another competitive North Coast Athletic Conference race.

The Tigers' roster includes a host of familiar faces in a large sophomore class and several newcomers as well. Look for top performances by sophomores Pat Reist (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton), Steve Spittle (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman), Jonathan Orr (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon), David Meyer (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) and Jesse Fyffe (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe). They will be joined by a pair of promising freshmen, Michael DeFabis (Brentwood, Ind./Pike) and Adam Knowlton (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee).

The Tiger program has regularly made appearances at the NCAA Division III championships, and this season the goals are no different. The Tigers face a tough schedule with strong competition at invitationals at Denison University, Otterbein College and the College of Wooster, as well as the annual conference tournament. Wittenberg opens its spring 2001 schedule at the Muskingum Invitational on March 29-30.
