Wittenberg Men's Basketball Defeats DePauw 77-73 in OT Thriller

Springfield, Ohio - Trailing DePauw by two with less than a second left in the second half, the Wittenberg men's basketball team drained a putback off a missed free throw to force overtime and came out on top 77-73 after the extra five minutes on Wednesday night at Pam Evans Smith Arena.

Wittenberg improved to 14-7 overall and 8-4 in North Coast Athletic Conference play while dropping DePauw to 11-10 overall and 6-6 in the NCAC.

DePauw led by three, 64-61, with four seconds left in regulation, but sophomore Eddie Brown (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange) drew a foul on the subsequent possession and made the first free throw. Brown missed the second foul shot, but sophomore Dawson Scott (New Castle, Ind. / New Castle) was in position to grab the offensive rebound for a putback bucket to tie the game with just 0.9 seconds remaining.

Junior Cameron Harrison (Eaton, OH / National Trail) drained a 3-pointer to put Wittenberg up 73-71 with 1:02 left in overtime, and a pair of free throws from junior Trey Killens (Cincinnati, OH / Mason) extended the lead to 75-71 with 28 seconds remaining.

Killens later sealed the victory with two more free throws with nine seconds left.

Wittenberg opened Wednesday's game on a 7-0 run en route to a 21-11 edge with 7:16 left in the first half and a 31-26 halftime lead.

Killens led Wittenberg in scoring with 21 points while adding three rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Senior Jeff Queen (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) added 11 points and six assists, while senior Daniel Asher (Indianapolis, Ind. / Roncalli) posted eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Brown tallied eight points, five rebounds and four assists and now has 200 career rebounds.

Ronald Johnson led DePauw with 24 points.

Wittenberg shot 42.9% from the floor to DePauw's 37.7% and made nine 3-pointers while shooting 42.9% from beyond the arc.
