Tigers Lockdown Wilmington In Non-Conference Road Battle

Wilmington, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger Men's Basketball team overwhelmed the Wilmington College Quakers, 81-61, earning their third consecutive win and third win of the 2022-23 season. For the second game in a row, Trey Killens led the Tiger scoring effort, putting up 22 points, knocking down 7 of 10 from the floor including all eight attempts from the free-throw line. Wittenberg shot a crisp 45 percent from the field, converting on 6 of 16 from beyond the arc.

The Tiger offense dominated from the tip, taking a 41-27 lead into the break and putting together an 11-point scoring run in the final minutes of the half. Killens and Ethan Connery led the Wittenberg scoring effort with eight points apiece through the first 20-minutes. Levi Boettcher and Jerry Saunders Jr. added seven and six points each.

The Tigers continued to feed the hot hand in the second half, as Killens sliced up the Wilmington defense for 14 points. As a team, Wittenberg knocked down 13 of 27 from the floor, including 3 of 9 from beyond the arc.

Boettcher finished with 11 points on the evening, pulling down seven rebounds with two assists. Jeff Queen tallied a team-high eight rebounds and four assists on the night. Saunders Jr. would tally 12 points with two rebounds. Connery was the final Tiger to tally double-figures, finishing with 11 points, coming up with a team-high six steals.

With this win, Wittenberg improves to 3-1 on the season. They will look forward to opening up NCAC action on Saturday, December 3, at Hiram College. Tipoff against the Terriers is set for 4:00 pm.
