Tigers Catch Fire From Beyond The Arc In Road Win At Allegheny

Meadville, PA – The Wittenberg Tiger men's basketball team overtook the Gators of Allegheny College with a 75-71 road win. The Tigers caught fire from beyond the arc late in the second half, hitting 8 of their 9 three-point attempts. Wittenberg was led by senior Levi Boettcher scoring 16 points and pulling down 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Boettcher converted on 5 of 13 from the floor, including 4 of 7 from beyond the arc. Ridge Young added 15 points with Landon Martin tacking on 14. Martin dished out five assists with Young handing out four.

The Tigers stayed within striking distance within the first half, trailing Allegheny 30-24. Despite shooting 34 percent from the floor, the Tiger defense held the Gators to just 11 of 37 from the field on their home court.

Wittenberg would chip away at the Allegheny advantage in the second half, trailing by 15 at the 10:37 mark. Boettcher cut the Gator lead to 11 at 57-46, capitalizing on the Allegheny turnover at the other end.  The Tiger defense would cut the differential to four with just under seven minutes left in regulation, coming off the three by Boettcher. Wittenberg took their first lead at the 3:37 mark, as Martin assisted the Rashaad Ali-Shakir triple. The Tigers extended their lead out to six at 73-68 coming off the Martin jumper. Wittenberg would put together a 54 percent shooting clip in the second half, knocking down 8 of 11 from beyond the arc.

NCAC LEADERS

Young leads the North Coast Athletic Conference in three-point shooting percentage at 52.1 with Tolliver holding down the third spot at 47.4. Tolliver and Young also land at third and fourth in the NCAC for field goal shooting percentage.

Wittenberg will return to action on Wednesday, February 16 back home at Pam Evans Smith Arena, hosting the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops. Tip-off is set for 8:00 PM.
