Oberlin, Ohio – The No. 25 Wittenberg University men's basketball team took on the Yeomen of Oberlin College on Saturday afternoon, defeating their NCAC foe, 92-84, for their second overtime thriller of the week. The Tigers finished with five players scoring in double figures, with Connor Seipel posting a season-high 33 points, while also adding six rebounds and six assists to go along with a steal and a block. Wittenberg moves to 13-4 on the season and 7-3 in North Coast Athletic Conference action, completing the regular season sweep of the Yeomen.

Game Breakdown

The two sides battled back and forth through the opening minutes of the first half with the scoreboard flashing a tie-game multiple times by the 10th minute of the first half. Wittenberg was forced to fend off a late Oberlin run, as the Red & White maintained a 38-36 lead going into the break. Wittenberg came out of the intermission firing on all cylinders, as the Tigers quickly extended their lead out to 54-49 before the first 10 minutes of the second half expired. Oberlin surged back in the final minutes, forcing overtime at 78-78. Pumroy led the Wittenberg offense down the stretch, scoring 11 of his 13 points in the second half. When it came to the OT period, Wittenberg outscored the Yeomen, 14-6, highlighted by Seipel pouring in six points during the overtime period, as the Tigers held on to take the game, 92-84.

Who Stood Out

Mitchell Balser was the second leading-scorer for the Tigers, knocking down 4-of-8 attempts from beyond the arc and finishing the game with 14 points. Balser reeled in five rebounds, picking up three steals and dishing out two assists. Pumroy broke out for 13 points, converting on 3-of-6 attempts from deep and 4-of-8 from the floor. Pumroy hauled in five rebounds, adding two steals and two assists to his credit on the day. Weaving his way through the Oberlin defense, Jacob Bertemes posted 11 points, finishing the day 5-of-6 from the field, serving up seven assists to go along with three rebounds. James Johnson capped off the double-digit scoring frenzy for the Tigers, posting 10 points with five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
