No. 11 Men's Hoops Blows By Bryant-Stratton In Kiwanis Classic

Springfield OH – In the second game of the Kiwanis Holiday Classic the 11th-ranked Wittenberg University men's basketball team faced off against the Bryant-Stratton (NY) Bobcats. What began as a tight game, slowly saw the Tigers widen the scoring gap, and eventually pull away for a convincing 94-60 win over the Bobcats. In game one of the men's classic on Friday night, Wilmington (OH) pulled off the upset with an 83-80 win over No. 21 Wabash.

Game Breakdown: The Tigers struggled to find their footing in the first half of the game, and settled for a 10-10 tie with Bryant-Stratton within the first 10 minutes of play. The entire tone of the match shifted when junior Jacob Bertemes entered the game and broke the streak of missed shots for the Tigers. From there, the Tigers continued to pass through the Bobcats defense and ended the first half with a 15 point lead of 36-21. 

The second half only got better for the Tigers as their shooting attempts and shooting success increased as the game went on, seeing more players successfully getting to the scoring column, including the junior duo of Connor Seipel and Tanner Cowgill who each chipped in eight points for the Tigers in the second half.

Who Stood Out: Bertemes led the offense with 15 points and three assists for the game, while Seipel just missed out on a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds. In total, 13 different Tigers notched a point in the scoring column, which included junior Mark Fair II and sophomore Landon Martin both finishing the game with 10 points apiece.

UP NEXT: Wittenberg will return to action at 7:00 PM on Saturday, Dec. 29 for the final game of the Kiwanis Holiday Classic, taking on the Quakers from Wilmington College.
