Tigers Secure Seventh Straight Victory over Hiram on Senior Day

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg hoops honored the senior class of 2017 before Saturday's game against the Terriers of Hiram. Shane Edwards, Connor Hartnett, Landon Hormann, Cody Phillippi and Jaelin Williams stood at half court along with their loved ones for the second to last time inside Pam Evans Smith Arena as they were recognizef for their hard work over the past four years. Fittingly enough for the Tigers, Hartnett made a strong move to the hoop on the opening posession, scoring the first bucket for the Tigers in a game that saw Wittenberg come out on top 76-68. The win give the Tigers their seventh straight victory with two decisive games left on the schedule; Ohio Wesleyan at home, and Wooster on the road. The Tigers now sit 17-6 overall in 2016-17, and 11-5 in NCAC play.

 GAME BREAKDOWN
  • In a virtually identical first half, the Terriers and the Tigers headed to the locker room tied at 30.  
  • Wittenberg jumped 23-12 lead before Hiram came roaring back to knot the game up 30 with under a minute remaining in the half.
  • Out of the break, Hormann capped off an 8-0 run for the Tigers with his second three-pointer in as any tries to put the Tigers up 38-30.
  • Chad Roy came off the bench for the Tigers on Saturday, as Coach Croci and company elected to start all five seniors on senior day, as the junior netted two of his 17 points with 14:23 remaining, putting the Tigers up 37-35.
  • Williams splashed home a three-pointer as the shot clock wound down with 9:30 to play in the game, extending the Tigers lead to 58-44.
  • Hormann connected on his third three-pointer of the half with 2:55 left in regulation, ballooning the Tigers lead to 70-55.
  • At the final horn, Wittenberg proved to be too much for the Terriers, winning the contest handily 76-68.

  • Wittenberg shot 48% from the floor in the win, and 50% from behind the three-point line, cashing in on three-long balls.
  • Hormann and Wiliams each splashed home three three-pointers for the Tigers, as all of Hormann's came in the second half.
  • Williams paced the Tigers with 18 points on seven of 16 shooting, while Roy chipped in 17 on seven of 12 shooting.
  • Wittenberg had hands around the ball all afternoon, forcing Hiram into 18 turnovers, as Roy lead the Tigers with two steals.
