Tigers Stay Hot, Rattle Off Sixth Straight

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Indiana- Wittenberg men's hoops stayed hot on Wednesday night, as the Tigers were able to defeat the Wabash Little Giants 73-58 for their sixth straight victory. Despite trailing by five at the break, Wittenberg held the Little Giants to 19 points in the second half as the team moved to 10-5 in NCAC play. Leading the Tigers offensively was senior guard Cody Phillippi who recorded 16 points, including a perfect eight-for-eight performance from the free-throw line. Wittenberg takes their 16-6 (10-5) record back to Springfield and will return to action on February 11 at 2:00PM against the Hiram Terriers on Senior Day. 

GAME NOTES

  • Wittenberg opened up the second half with a Phillippi three pointer that cut the Wabash lead to 39-37.  
  • Jaelin Williams put the Tigers out in front for good at 52-50 when the Springfield native hit a jumper with 11:24 remaining in the contest.
  • Chad Roy stepped out at the top of the key with 4:33 remaining and knocked down a jumper that put the Tigers up six, 62-56.
  • Wittenberg outrebounded the Little Giants down the stretch and knocked in their free throws to secure their sixth straight victory.

KEY STATS

  • Shane Edwards recorded his second double-double in a week's time on Wednesday night, as the senior poured in 14 points, and pulled down ten boards.
  • Despite attempting 24 three-point attempts in the game, Wabash was held to 19 points in the second half, shooting 23% from the floor.
  • Shooting a perfect 50% from the floor as a team, the Tigers also managed to take care of the ball all night, only surrendering six turnovers in the win.

  • "Really gritty performance by the guys tonight overall. Wabash made a bunch of tough shots throughout the game, but we held them to 19 second half points and really executed down the stretch," said Coach Croci.
