Tigers Fall to OWU 76-70 in NCAC Battle

DELEWARE, Ohio—Wittenberg men's basketball lead by as many as 16 on Wednesday night against the Battling Bishops of OWU, but the Tigers could not fend off a second half surge from the home team as the Tigers lost their second straight NCAC contest. Wittenberg shot 47% from the floor, but continued to struggle from the free-throw line, as the team shot 47% from their as well in a 76-70 loss. Wittenberg falls to 4-5 in NCAC play and 10-6 overall in 2016-17.

GAME NOTES

  • Leading by as many as 16 early on, the Tigers found great success down in the low post, tallying 40 points in the paint as Landon Hormann scored ten first half points.
  • Wittenberg lead by six at the break, but the Battling Bishops managed to outscore the Tigers 42-30 in the second half to double-up the Tigers 76-70 in the end. 
  • Wittenberg outscored OWU in the paint 40-20, and outrebounded the Battling Bishops 41-30, but gave up 11 three pointers to OWU, which proved to be the difference.
  • Chad Roy continued his strong play in the post as the junior recorded 14 points for Wittenberg on seven of 14 shooting.
  • Shane Edwards did a little bit of everything for Wittenberg in the loss, as the senior pulled down 12 rebounds, dished out four assists, recorded four points, and one steal.
