Tigers Fall to DePauw 58-54 in Home Opener

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg men's basketball entered Wednesday night's contest 4-1 and 1-0 in league play as the DePauw Tigers traveled to Springfield. Wittenberg has shot the ball extremely well in 2016, but Wittenberg was off the mark on Wednesday night, as the Tigers of DePauw only need 58 points to top the Tigers. Despite leading by as many as seven late in the game, Wittenberg fell to DePauw 58-54, as their NCAC record now sits at 1-1.

 

GAME NOTES

  • The Tigers entered halftime trailing 24-23, after a Jaelin Williams three-pointer that beat the game clock, but DePauw would not go away early on in the second half.  
  • After tying and exchanging leads early in the second half, Wittenberg managed to pull ahead to a seven-point lead with nine minutes remaining in regulation.
  • The Tigers could not keep pace with DePauw late, despite Williams' 15-point effort off the bench.
  • Wittenberg outrebounded DePauw 32-28 in the game, but only shot 35 percent from the floor, and 30 percent from beyond the three-point line in the loss.
