Tigers Earn First Win of 2016-17 with 23-point Win Over Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, PA—After a last second loss in the season opener, Wittenberg men's basketball bounced back in a big way on Saturday night. In the consolation game of the Gettysburg College Tip-Off Tournament, the Tigers squared off against the host, Gettysburg, and blew out the home team by 23 points. Wittenberg held Gettysburg to 19 points in the first half, as the Tigers earned the first win of the season, and Coach Matt Croci's first win as head coach, 74-51. Sophomore guard Ryan Gallimore was named to the all-tournament team after performances of 28 and 14 points.

 

GAME NOTES

  • Landon Hormann and Chad Roy paced the Tigers in the first half, pouring in eight points each for the red and white.  
  • The Tigers 34-19 halftime lead featured the Tigers shooting nearly 54% from the floor, while Gettysburg shot 25% on only 20 total first half attempts.
  • In a game where Wittenberg led wire-to-wire, Wittenberg was led by Hormann, who poured in 21 points for the Tigers, while pulling down nine boards.
  • The Tigers scored inside at will on Saturday, outscoring Gettysburg 46-16 in the paint.
  • While the Tigers managed to work the ball inside consistently, they also managed to shoot 50% from beyond the three-point line, as Gallimore and Jordan Pumroy each netted two threes' a piece.
  • On top of the offensive production on Saturday, Wittenberg owned the glass, outrebounding Gettsyburg on their home floor, 38-24.

  • "I am really proud of our effort today bouncing back from a tough loss last night…Defensively I felt that we did really well, as we were balanced offensively as well. Overall, I think we did a great job controlling the paint and utilizing our size," said Coach Croci.

UP NEXT

  • The Tigers return to action on November 22 against Otterbein University, as the game will be played at Ohio Wesleyan University as a part of the NCAC/OAC Challenge.
