Tigers Drop NCAC Matchup to OWU 87-66

DELAWARE, Ohio—Wittenberg continued their NCAC schedule Wednesday night as they traveled to Ohio Wesleyan University. The Battling Bishops came into the matchup ranked number ten in the country and atop the NCAC, while the Tigers looked to get back on track in conference play. Despite taking care of the ball on the offensive side, as well as getting the ball down in the post consistently, the Tigers fell 87-66 on the night. The loss puts Wittenberg at 7-6 in NCAC play and 12-8 overall on the season.

GAME BREAKDOWN

  • At the half, Wittenberg trailed 40-33 after shooting 47-percent from the floor.
  • Cody Phillippi (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia) and Chad Roy (Toledo, Ohio/Holland Springfield) came out of the break scoring the first six points for the Tigers, cutting into the OWU lead.
  • With 10:34 remaining in regulation, Garrett Dorfman (Durham, North Carolina/Northern Durham) nailed a jumper to put the score at 65-47, OWU.
  • Ryan Gallimore's (Loveland, Ohio/Milford) three-pointer with 3:05 remaining in the game, put the Tigers behind, 78-62.
  • Austin Doliboa (Franklin, Ohio/Franklin) scored his first two-points of his career for the Tigers Wednesday night, as the freshman splashed two-free throws with seconds remaining in the contest.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Zach Brashear (Maineville, Ohio/Kings), Phillippi, and Roy all contributed 10 points apiece for the Tigers.
  • Shane Edwards (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrsyburg) and Jaelin Williams (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) led the Tigers on the glass, pulling down seven boards a piece.
  • Edwards was all over the court for the Tigers, complimenting his seven rebounds with sex assists, four points, and four steals.

KEY STATS

  • Wittenberg outrebounded OWU 37-35 in the loss.
  • The Tiger's bench outscored the Battling Bishops bench, 33-12.
