Tiger Get Back on Track in 2016 with 23 Point NCAC Victory

GREEN CASTLE, Indiana-- Wittenberg  men's basketball went on the road and earned their first win of 2016, moving up a game in NCAC play along the way. The Tigers were too much for DePauw all night long, leading from wire-to-wire and producing noteworthy offensive performances across the board. Wittenberg managed to not only keep the lead for the entire game, but to periodically expand their league as time went on, managing a 23 point victory, 65-42, when things were all said and done.

 

GAME BREAKDOWN

  • Wittenberg jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game Wednesday night at Neal Fieldhouse.
  • The Tigers did not find themselves trailing at all in the first-half, leading by as many as nine, which came at the break, 30-21.
  • Zach Brashear (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) ignited the offense in the first-half, nailing two three-pointers on his way to eight points.
  • Wittenberg's offense stayed poised right out of the break, extending their lead to 42-29 with 14:00 remaining in regulation.
  • The lead grew to 16, as Chad Roy (Toledo, Ohio/Holland Springfield) maneuvered to the hoop for an easy layup with 7:27 remaining, pushing his point total to 10.
  • At the final buzzer, Wittenberg emerged on top, 65-42, moving to 4-3 in NCAC play and 9-5 overall.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Tigers outshot DePauw from the floor by nearly 20-percent, 46 to 27.
  • While the game found itself tied up twice, the Tigers lead wire-to-wire from the tip.
  • Across the board, the Tigers stepped up big tonight as a collective, enjoying 32 bench points in the NCAC victory.

KEY STATS

  • The Tigers returned to form on the glass, outrebounding DePauw 43-30.
  • The Tigers lead the way down low, managing 20 points in the paint to DePauw's 10.
  • Along with their great defense, the Tigers created opportunities for one another all night long, which showed in their eight three pointers and 47-percent success rate from beyond the arc.

  • "We defended really well tonight… After a tough week last week, we really talked about getting our mojo back. This is a good road conference win for us," said Head Coach Bill Brown.
