Travis Schwab Named Head Coach At Muskingum

Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University Associate Head Men’s Basketball Coach Travis Schwab has been named the head coach at Muskingum University.

Wittenberg posted a record of 142-80 in eight seasons with Schwab serving as an assistant under longtime Tiger head man Bill Brown, and the Tigers made three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, including a run to the national quarterfinals in 2012. He was involved in all facets of the program, including recruiting, academic support, game and practice planning, and alumni relations. In 2013, he was elevated from assistant to associate head coach in recognition of his dedicated service and visible expertise.

Schwab assumes the reins of a Muskingum program that finished 6-19 overall and 3-15 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) in the 2014-15 season. The Muskies have been led by Gene Ford for the last eight seasons.

“Travis will have an immediate impact at Muskingum University, and in time will take the program into the upper echelon of the Ohio Athletic Conference. Travis has impeccable character, his work ethic is matched by very few, and his ability to connect with young people is outstanding,” said Brown, a 1973 Wittenberg graduate who has led the Tigers since 1993. “While we will greatly miss having Travis as a very important part of our program, our players and coaching staff couldn’t be more excited for him.”

Schwab previously served as an assistant coach at Heidelberg for two years and Kenyon for one season. His coaching career has followed a tremendous collegiate playing career at Ohio Wesleyan, where he became the first North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) player to earn first-team all-league awards all four years of his career. Following his senior season, Schwab was named a first-team All-American.

Schwab scored 1,985 points in his career at Ohio Wesleyan, which ranks second on the program’s career scoring list and third on the NCAC’s all-time list.

A search for Schwab’s replacement is already underway.
