SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Wittenberg Tigers scored the first seven points of the game to trigger an offensive avalanche in what eventually became an 89-47 victory over visiting UC-Clermont.

The win moved the Tigers to 7-2 overall, heading into a weeklong holiday break. Wittenberg will return to action in the Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic, starting with a first-round game against Bethany on Dec. 28.

The Tigers simply dominated UC-Clermont, which dropped to 4-14 on the campaign, shooting 56 percent from the field and owning the boards to the tune of 49-25 for the game. All 16 Wittenberg players in uniform saw action in the game, with 14 of them finding their way into the scoring column.

The win was the largest margin of victory since a 47-point decision against Earlham on Jan. 31, 2007.

Junior Scott Masin (New Carlisle, Ohio/Bethel) was outstanding, finishing with 20 points and six rebounds. He drained 9-of-10 shots from the field and 2-of-3 from the free throw line.

Junior Zack Leahy (Rossford, Ohio/Rossford) also was nearly perfect offensively, hitting 7-of-8 from the field – including 3-of-4 from three-point range – and adding a free throw in his lone opportunity for 18 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists. Also reaching double figures was sophomore Sam Collins (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights), who stuffed the stats sheet with 14 points, eight assists and five boards.

Four players scored their first collegiate points in the game, led by junior James Hughes (Brighton, Mich./Pinckney) with seven points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field. Also of note was the play of freshman Alex Fultz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este), who was held without a point but contributed a game-high seven rebounds.
