Edison Takes Third In Women's Tournament With 14-Point Win Over Centre

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Edison Community College Lady Chargers took home third place honors in the Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic after defeating the Centre College Colonels, 81-67, at Wittenberg University's HPER center.

Point guard Whitney Warvel capped off an incredbile weekend by scoring a team - and tournament - high 29 points (one point shy of the tournament record). Warvel was 7-for-9 behind the three-point arc (.778) added three rebounds, and three steals to go with her scoring efforts. More importantly, Warvel never left the court the entire weekend, logging a whopping 80 minutes over the course of two games. Her seven three-pointers in a game was also a tournament record.

Teammate Jodi Zimmerman also had a remarkable game - and weekend - for the Chargers. Against Centre, Zimmerman scored 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out six assists, and still found time to block five shots (tying a tournament record), and grab five steals.

Stacy Feathers was the only other Charger to score in double figures with 19 points. Brenda Hemmelgarn tied the single game record for most assists with nine, but also recorded 10 turnovers in the game as well.

For Centre, Monica Vonderbrink capped off a strong weekend with 14 points, and was joined by fellow teammate Crystal Claunch who added 12 points, four assists and four rebounds.

The win improves Edison's record to 6-5, while the loss dropped Centre's overall record to 3-7.
